Getting to Know Representative Jake Auchincloss
The experience of reading about Congressman Jake Auchincloss, Representative of Massachusetts's 4th Congressional District (that includes Dover, Medfield, Needham and Newton), is quite different from meeting him. But as one person I know put it, the Representative has “explode[d] a lot of stereotypes.” In chatting with the Congressman, rather than remembering a collection of soundbites, one instead is left with conversation that is marked by knowledge and sincerity. An earnest sincerity … Continue Reading

Rep. Auchincloss: 'This Is A Political Battle In Afghanistan, Not A Military One'
President Biden has set the date for a full withdrawal from Afghanistan, ending a nearly 20 year war. In a speech yesterday, Biden stated, "I said we would be out by September and we're on track to meet that target. Our military mission in Afghanistan will conclude on August 31st." The withdrawal announcement comes with the message that this is an "unwinnable war," but also with the promise that the U.S. will help the Afghan translators and other allies who the president says will be welcome … Continue Reading

EXCERPT: AUCHINCLOSS: “I think Speaker Pelosi has been doing this since I was in middle school and I’ve got great confidence in her judgment on how to put this commission together. The INVEST Act, which is scheduled for a vote in the House of Representatives this week, will be the foundation for that bipartisan reform. The INVEST Act is a $547 billion investment in repairing and modernizing surface transportation in America. It includes … Continue Reading

Time to appoint an envoy to combat antisemitism
Between May 7-14, more than 17,000 tweets used some variation of the phrase “Hitler was right,” and the American Jewish community was, once more, reminded that, even in America, there are some who will always see us as strangers. While social media filled with tropes reminiscent of the scapegoating campaigns of the Czars and Nazis, Jewish Americans who wore yarmulkes or symbols of their faith were attacked, in broad daylight, on the streets of New York and Los Angeles, and synagogues were … Continue Reading
