Auchincloss claimed ICE is a “rotten agency” that operates without the respect for due process or professionalism expected in a free society. He said the agency needs root-level reforms, including the firing of its leadership.
He invited Republicans to join Democrats in urging ICE to remove face masks, end warrantless searches, and reprioritize immigration enforcement toward the border and violent criminals.
Earlier this month, Auchincloss described ICE as an “instrument of fear” on X.
“Congress should launch an impeachment inquiry into the DHS Secretary,” he wrote. “She must answer for her leadership failure, and learn firsthand what due process looks like.”
Auchincloss later pledged to vote “no” on a measure that would fund what he called a “broken agency,” citing the need for stricter oversight and accountability. He said ICE has morphed into a “presidential paramilitary” under Noem’s leadership.
“Rather than targeting criminals and prioritizing border security, ICE is harassing American citizens and immigrant communities,” he wrote in a Jan. 22 post on X. “The appropriations bill adds zero policy riders to reverse and reform these broken tactics, such as masking; warrantless street-grabs; operations in sensitive locations like schools; and derelict standards & training for the use of force.”
