RELEASE: Auchincloss Introduces Bill to Create a U.S.-Israel Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Center
“By investing in the technologies of the future with our allied partners, we can build an economy that prepares us to tackle the challenges of the next generation.”
Washington, DC — Today, Congressman Jake Auchincloss, (D, MA-04), Congressman Anthony Gonzalez (R, OH-16), Congresswoman Grace Meng (D, NY-06), Congressman Dean Phillips (D, MN-03), and Congressman Mike Waltz (R, FL-06) introduced legislation to create a U.S.-Israel Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research and Development Center to further bilateral cooperation in AI and contribute to the advancement of this critical field. The bill directs the U.S. Secretary of State, in consultation with the U.S. Secretary of Commerce and the heads of other relevant U.S. agencies, to establish a joint U.S.-Israel AI Center in the United States. The Center will serve as a hub for robust research and development in AI across the public, private and education sectors in the two nations.
"As the United States pivots away from the failed forever wars, we must recommit ourselves to strong alliances with friends and be prepared to compete with the emerging threat of the CCP,” said Congressman Auchincloss. “Partnering with Israel and developing an Artificial Intelligence Research Center will help our generation lead in R&D globally. By investing in the technologies of the future with our allied partners, we can build an economy that prepares us to tackle the challenges of the next generation."
This bill is a companion to legislation introduced in the Senate by Senators Rubio, Cantwell, Blackburn, and Rosen.
“Israel is our most important and closest ally in the Middle East, and we need to make sure that our partnership in joint-security also extends into emerging technology,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “We know that the development of effective artificial intelligence is crucial to both ours and Israel’s national interests. I am proud to co-lead this bill with my colleague to establish the United States–Israel Artificial Intelligence Center in the United States.”
“We must continue to strengthen ties with our closest ally in the region, Israel. Collaborating and investing in research and development that is critical to national security, like Artificial Intelligence, makes the world a safer place,” said Congressman Waltz.
