Rep. Jake Auchincloss Could Be Unopposed In 2022 House Race
Rep. Jake Auchincloss could be the only one on the ballot for the 2022 Fourth Congressional District Seat, reported the Sun Chronicle.
Auchincloss, who was one of nine names on the ballot two years ago, now appears to be unchallenged in his attempt to win a second term on Capitol Hill.
Jesse Mermell, a former Brookline Select Board Member who placed second in last year’s primary, announced this week that she has dropped plans to run due to her father’s recent death and need to help her mother.
"Since the fall of 2020, I have heard from countless MA-04 voters who want someone to go to bat for them in Washington - a strong leader, a true progressive - and who have been encouraging me to run again,” Mermell Tweeted Monday. "In fact before my Dad took a turn our team had been gearing up to announce a second Congressional run."
"But as I navigate helping my Mom during this time of transition, and processing my own grief, now is not the time for another campaign,” she continued.
Both of the Republicans who announced plans to run, including former Attleboro city councilor Julie Hall and Newton resident Emily Burns, have also dropped out of the race.
The deadline to submit nomination papers for the race is May 10.
