House Democrat 'can’t help but laugh' at Mike Pence for criticizing Joe Biden’s approach to Ukraine
United States Representative Jake Auchincloss (D-Massachusetts) on Monday delivered a harsh response to former Vice President and 2024 Republican presidential candidate Mike Pence's criticism of President Joe Biden's handling of Russia's war in Ukraine over the weekend.
Pence said on Sunday's edition of ABC's This Week that "President Biden has failed miserably to explain our national interest here. He's given these gauzy speeches about democracy, the reason we're there. Look, we're there because it's in our national interest to give the Ukrainian military the ability to rebut and defeat Russian aggression."
Auchincloss, speaking with MSNBC host Ana Cabrera, tore into Pence for having stood by ex-President Donald Trump after he tried to extort Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for dirt on Biden as well as when Trump held a secret meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Finland.
"I mean, I can't, I can't help but laugh. Ed Sheeran's performing in my district in the last few days. I might as well go tell Ed Sheeran how to put on a show. That's about as much credibility as Mike Pence has in telling Joe Biden how to operate against Russia," Auchincloss said.
"Mike Pence was vice president when Donald Trump was impeached for blackmailing Ukraine. Mike Pence was vice president when Donald Trump went to Helsinki and prostrated himself before Putin in a performance that two previous GOP presidential nominees called 'disgraceful,'" Auchincloss continued.
"Mike Pence has zero credibility on the question of Ukraine," Auchincloss added. "And if I were him, I would be spending my time on the phone calling House GOP members and asking them to not cut half a billion dollars from Ukrainian support as they just voted to do two weeks ago."
