US congressman dismisses letter from China’s embassy

Radio Taiwan International

US Congressman Jake Auchincloss has dismissed a letter from China's embassy in Washington that expressed "serious concern" over his recent visit to Taiwan. The letter comes after a bipartisan American congressional delegation met with Taiwan's legislature to discuss collaboration in security, business, and trade in late February.

The delegation included representatives Ro Khanna, Jake Auchincloss, Jonathan Jackson, and Tony Gonzales. The delegation met with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), Vice President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), and other high-level officials in Taiwan.

US news source the Daily Beast says Auchincloss received the letter from the embassy the day he returned to the United States. The report says though China has expressed disapproval before, the quick response this time reflects the heightened tension around this situation.

Auchincloss took to Twitter to say he does not care about the letter's message and will continue to support democracy and freedom around the world.
