Newton Pharmacist to Attend Presidential State of Union as Auchincloss Guest

Newton, MA — Congressman Jake Auchincloss (D, MA-04) is announcing Newton-based independent pharmacist Dr. Xiaoyan Qin as his guest to President Biden’s State of the Union Address to Congress on Tuesday. Congressman Auchincloss recently visited Union Pharmacy and spoke to Dr. Qin about her experiences as an immigrant from China and small business owner who has witnessed the opportunities America provides firsthand, as well as how rising healthcare costs impact Americans everyday.

“Local independent pharmacists are community assets, especially as we continue to grapple with healthcare inflation,” said Auchincloss. “While President Biden and Democrats made progress on lowering the cost of healthcare last Congress, the out-of-pocket costs of prescription drugs are still too high. The question we now ask Republicans is: will you work with Democrats to make needed changes to our healthcare system, or will you continue down the path of extremism?”

Congressman Auchincloss expects President Biden to address recent Republican actions against women’s reproductive health in his speech, as well as Republican efforts to make healthcare less accessible to lower-income families. From attacking abortion pills, to turning their backs on seniors, Republicans have thus far failed to build on the bipartisan progress made last Congress in making healthcare more affordable and accessible.

“I’ve dedicated my career to providing increased access, choice, and excellent pharmacy service to the local community,” said Dr. Xiaoyan Qin. “I am thrilled to be invited to the state of the Union by Congressman Auchincloss, and help increase awareness of the critical role independent pharmacies play in the health of local communities. Like other small business owners, I also am grateful to be able to contribute to the local economy and create jobs. It is good to see continued progress towards increased access, choice, and affordability by the President and Congress. I am excited to learn what else President Biden and Congress will do to help Americans live a better life.”

Dr. Xiaoyan Qin opened Union Pharmacy in 2019 to give people a community-centered care option. For the past 15 years, she has been a dedicated pharmacist and pharmacy manager in Newton Center. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
