Massachusetts Rep. Auchincloss Slams Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance On Ukraine, Israel Aid Comments

Massachusetts Democrat Rep. Jake Auchincloss accused opponents Friday of lacking a “moral compass” when they connected aid to Israel with that to Ukraine.

In a Thursday night address from the Oval Office, President Joe Biden said he would pursue a $100 billion aid package for Israel and Ukraine.

Israel has been in a state of war ever since over 1,400 people were killed in a terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7.

“What the president did is completely disgraceful. If he wants to sell the American people on $60B more to Ukraine, he shouldn’t use dead Israeli children to do it. It was disgusting,” said Ohio Rep. J.D. Vance on Fox News.

Auchincloss shot back, telling CNN host Kate Bolduan. “It’s a problem for J.D. Vance, but J.D. Vance has no moral compass. He is somebody who has sold out his own constituents in pursuit of a cult of personality on behalf of Donald Trump.”

Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the US has given over $100 billion in aid. In January of this year, the US announced that it would send 31 M1 Abrams main battle tanks, following the announcement that a battery of MIM-104 Patriot surface-to-air missiles would be provided in December.

In July, the Biden administration declared that it would be sending Ukraine M864 155-millimeter artillery shells, also referred to as Dual-Purpose Improved Conventional Munitions (DPICM), which are explosive weapons that dispense smaller ones over a larger area in order to attack people and vehicles.

Citing the crisis on the border with Mexico and the depletion of ammunition supplies, many Republicans are against funding for Ukraine. In the event that war broke out with China, the United States would run out of precision-guided weapons in a week, according to a report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

Since the invasion in 2022, support for aiding Ukraine has decreased; only 41% of poll respondents are in favor of doing so.
